Its about TIME! But its probably too LATE!
Helsingin Sanomat has finally publish some real coverage about the struggle to SAVE the forest in Meri-Rastila and the real alternative to KSV's plans presented by the local residents.
The "osayleiskaavaehdotus" will be present in the "kaupunginsuunnittelulautakunta" on the 15th OCTOBER, this is one of the last chances for the plans to be halted. The forest in Meri-Rastila is unique and it is a natural resource for recreation, health and well being used by the whole city. It should be protected and preserved for all generations to come.
It is vital the the city sees that there are alternative ways of thinking about urban planning and the construction of much needed new homes. They should no longer accept the short sighted, profiteering strategy of satellite city planning and strive to make "IN-FILL" planning the staple method for new construction. This should become the basic principle of the NEW Yleiskaava!
In the mean time however the city must NOT destroy the unique forest in MERI-RASTILA!
